One of my favorite quotes, from one of my favorite shows, The West Wing, I believe sums up the attitude of many people in our country. While this idea definitely applies to politics, it also applies to living our lives in a way that’s going to bring about real change, not just selfishly living for ourselves but also from the standpoint of building and leaving a legacy behind. When it comes to truly being involved and attempting to make changes, I’ve come to the conclusion that as a country, we have been weighed in the balances and have come up short. The quote from the show is simply this, “Are you ignorant or are you apathetic?… I don’t know and I don’t care!”. How do we comabt this attitude? I tend to believe that life is not always binary. If we’re willing to think out the box and view life from different perspectives, I think we’ll discover we have multiple choices. Who knows? We may even find a choice we care about!
